Welcome to the new 2008 Palmerston Furniture Five of Clubs Championship website. The old space on Solway Car Club's site was getting so full we decided to go it alone...!

The 2007 Palmerston Furniture Five of Clubs Championship was deservedly won by Iain Haining from Dumfries in his 1600 Vauxhall Nova and his picture dominates the headers of this website. The points scoring system used in the Five of Clubs was devised specifically to give all competitors and equal chance of winning the Championship, no matter what kind of vehicle they compete in. Iain defeated drivers in higher performance cars, such as Mitsubishis and Subarus to take the crown - which just demonstrates they everyone is in with a chance, over to you Iain.....

"The 2006 season was not the best with loads of problems and a fair few retirements,so i entered the 2007 championship with zero optimism.

The season:

The 1st round started as the 2006 season had ended with a broken driveshaft at the 2nd corner of the 1st stage!! As we carry a spare in the car,we stopped and changed it ending up with a maximum.Another 2 broken driveshafts and 4 punctures,meant that we finished last overall,but 1st overall in the class for the 5 of Clubs championship.

Hence,it just goes to show that with a little determination we got to the end of the event,and with collecting maximum points,made me all the more determined to carry on chasing the 1st prize of a free Galloway Hills entry.

My season carried on with only minor problems,and as we all know,you need your fair share of luck in rallying.

I think i used my share of the luck,and managed to win my class on every round to pick up maximum points and go on and win the championship.

To me this shows that anybody can win this championship(even in a Nova)

I would like to thank my 4 navigators for their help throughout the season in 2007,namely Mark Proudlock, George Myatt, Christine Sanderson and Bruce Harper - without whose help and contribution,this would not have been possible"
